# Inventory

### Overview

This page is a listing of details primarily gathered from the monitored device by Highlight. All devices in or beneath the folder or location selected in the Network Explorer tree are shown. Click on any line to view more details on that device and any associated watches or to run a technical test for current device information. See the [Tech Info](#tech-info) section below.

Technical details are updated every 4 hours for SNMP watches and every 10 minutes for controller-based API watches.

### Panel header

The total number of devices is shown in brackets.

### Column headers

Sort the list by clicking on a column header which will then show an arrow to indicate ascending (▲) or descending (▼) sort order. If no arrows are visible it is not possible to sort the list using this criterion.

<table><thead><tr><th width="142">Field</th><th>Description</th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td><strong>Name</strong></td><td>the device's hostname</td></tr><tr><td><strong>IP Address</strong></td><td>the address or <a href="/pages/MI5GvRaEKj65imMs9TPi#dnsdomain_name_system">DNS</a> name used to access the device</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Vendor</strong></td><td>the manufacturer</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Type</strong></td><td>hardware model if known</td></tr><tr><td><strong>SysLocation</strong></td><td>the system location configured on the device which may be empty</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Location</strong></td><td>the location (in the Network Explorer tree) where this device was found</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Path</strong></td><td>the folder path for the location</td></tr><tr><td><strong>System Description</strong></td><td>additional information about the device such as the full or partial OS description of the device detailing the current firmware or software version. Hover over the text to see the full information.</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Supports</strong></td><td>the capabilities of the device in terms of the Highlight features that can be enabled on it</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Last Checked</strong></td><td>the time in UTC when Highlight last received an update of this information</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Last Restarted</strong></td><td>the time in UTC this device was last restarted or rebooted</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Licence</strong></td><td>displays the license versions available and enabled on the device. Hover over the licence for more details. See the <a href="https://support.highlight.net/help/device_setup/licence">licensing details page for more information</a></td></tr><tr><td><strong>Serial Number</strong></td><td><p>displays the device serial number in blue if known and otherwise displays [Unknown]. Hover over the serial number for more details including versions of hardware, software and firmware. </p><p><strong>Stacked switch members</strong></p><p>If there are stacked switches in the location or folder selected, then each is shown on its own row with a separate serial number listed. </p></td></tr><tr><td><strong>SIM ICCID</strong></td><td>for Cisco physical devices, the identifier of the SIM card if one is installed in the monitored device</td></tr><tr><td><strong>SysContact</strong></td><td>the contact information configured on the device which may be empty</td></tr></tbody></table>

The same device can appear multiple times, either if it is used in more than one location, or if it used in the same location but with different SNMP community strings.\
The first 1,000 devices in the selected sort order are shown. You can download the complete result set as a CSV, or see a smaller result set by navigating to a subfolder using Network Explorer.

**Controller device specifics**<br>

* Details are updated every 10 minutes
* All discovered SD-WAN devices show in Inventory, even if they don't have any watches
* To avoid multiple rows for a device with more than one IP address, only the IP address of the first watch is shown
* When tech testing a device with more than one IP address, the first watch details are used
* **Last Checked** is last updated
* **Last Restarted** is available for Cisco Catalyst but not Cisco Meraki or Fortinet devices
* Licence expiry details are available for Meraki but not Cisco Catalyst or Fortinet devices

### Tech Info

This panel is accessed two ways:

1. By clicking on a row in Reporting Inventory
2. By clicking Details and Tech info from the Details page

This window shows detailed information about the device you selected. The information is in several parts:

<table><thead><tr><th width="156">Tech info section</th><th>Description</th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td>Device Details</td><td><p>This section shows information about the device itself. This contains both current configuration information in Highlight, and information gathered directly from the device such as the Manufacturer, Serial Number and Type.</p><p>Technical information is refreshed every four hours for most devices. The 'Last Checked' field tells you when this last update occurred.</p><p>Note: Controller based devices are checked every 10 minutes and switches are every hour.</p></td></tr><tr><td>Interfaces/Discovered elements</td><td>Additional detail is also included on interfaces being monitored and any discovered elements (Class of Service, Multilink, VLANs), including speeds used by Highlight.</td></tr><tr><td>Test Details</td><td>Shows a list of the performance tests that are running on this device.</td></tr><tr><td>Application Details</td><td>Shows if Flow or NBAR is being monitored on this device.</td></tr><tr><td>Switch Details</td><td>For Switches the additional detail is explained further on the <a href="/pages/bFMcb1oj2e5eoqZD7Osq">Switches</a> page</td></tr><tr><td>Device real-time Technical Test</td><td><p>The Test button runs a technical test in real time for the current device information. Highlight displays a Testing icon while gathering the detail.</p><p>The Test button may be disabled or hidden with one of these messages:</p><ul><li>"Your provider has disabled tech testing for this device" - if the Edit watch option "Tech test available to customers" is unchecked</li><li>"Testing not available for this device" - for controller devices where collecting data via SNMP is not enabled</li></ul><p>If a watch is active in Highlight but not reachable from the primary poller then the technical test will fail.</p></td></tr></tbody></table>

Once completed a separate Device Technical Test window displays further configuration information including interface description and a list of IP addresses/subnet masks:

The real time tech test does not update the Highlight Technical Information with any recent changes.\
If response from the device is slow or the device is currently unreachable, the test will time out after 30 seconds and display **"This device could not be found."**

{% hint style="info" %}
**Tech info** is not available for wireless access points and controllers
{% endhint %}
