Here is an overview of the steps required to set up AppVis in Highlight:

Install NBAR2 Protocol Pack on all devices involved in AppVis data collection Note: NBAR2 is not a pre-requisite as AppVis can use NBAR standard classification, but NBAR has significantly fewer signatures than NBAR2. A signature is a classification of an application.
If using NBAR2 ensure that the router has an "advipservices" or "data" license otherwise the router will use standard NBAR classification even if a Protocol Pack is loaded. Licence details are available from

On the router, Flow and NBAR (which are required for AppVis) can cause high CPU load so every AppVis monitored device needs to be adequately powered for the volume of traffic expected. If you are planning to enable Flow/NBAR on a number of devices we suggest first selecting the busiest device for each model to check it can handle the additional CPU load.
